For decades, SUUNTO's DNA has been deeply rooted in the core Finnish values of precision, robustness, reliability, and pure design. While the brand has evolved with the times, some spirits remain unchanged.
Navigation
Born from the initial spirit of exploration
Suunto was founded in 1936 by Finnish explorer Tuomas Vohlonen. Faced with freezing temperatures and the polar night, and dissatisfied with the technology available at the time, he overturned existing technical standards by inventing the liquid-filled compass, which provided more stable and accurate navigation. This far-reaching innovation demonstrates the Finnish spirit of exploration, which never loses its way.
Reliable
A tested belief
In the Winter War of 1939, a Finnish soldier miraculously survived thanks to a Suunto M-311 field compass – a bullet hit the compass instead of taking his life. Suunto believes that ninety years of product reliability is not a matter of luck.
Underwater
Break through limitations and innovate continuously
In 1965, a British sport diver discovered that Suunto compasses performed stably underwater, inspiring Suunto to launch its first diving compass, the SK-4. Every use is a continuation of the brand's story.
Durable
Finland's Extreme Environmental Test
Finland tests us, just as we test our products. The harsh cold and darkness of Finland challenge people and refine products. Suunto holds itself to high standards, subjecting all its products to extreme testing in real-world scenarios. Products that can survive in Finland are sure to accompany users anywhere in the world.
Experience
Continuous learning and striving for excellence.
For 90 years, Suunto has been learning, improving, and fine-tuning its technology to ensure its products reliably accompany you even in the most extreme conditions—especially when times are toughest.
Accuracy
Innovation changes the game rules
In 1987, Suunto launched its first dive computer, the SME-ML, which significantly enhanced safety through technology, freeing divers from manual calculations. Previously, divers had to use dive watches to calculate time. This made the sport safer, simpler, and more enjoyable.
Precision
A Confident Choice at a Critical Juncture
Sometimes, decisions have to be made instantly, under pressure. Since its launch in 1998, Suunto Vector has made mountaineering safer and more reliable, thanks to its streamlined functions and classic design. This watch has probably witnessed the majestic and perilous Himalayas more than any other.
Quality
Persevering in the Finnish spirit
Suunto is proud of its Finnish origins. This is because Finns set their own standards, believing that good is not enough – it must be better. This spirit is deeply ingrained in every Suunto product.
